Grade 6 started their year with a study of the Five Themes of Geography. These themes are Location, Place, Region, Movement, and Human-Environment Interaction. Pictured here are brochures that show the Place(s) the students spent their summer. Also shown are maps of the Regions we will be studying in social studies this year. The students also mapped Movement of people, goods and services, and ideas on world and national maps.

As part of an introduction to the unit on archaeology, I invited Christie Pohl, who is an archaeological conservator, in to speak with the students on Thursday, October 5th. She discussed various aspects of archaeology including the educational requirements, ethics, digs, the movement of artifacts and fossils from digs, and conservation.
