Text Box: NURSES HOURS AND ACTIVITIES
The school nurse is scheduled to be at the Freedom School five (5) 	days per week.  On occasion, it becomes necessary for the nurse to change her schedule, therefore, parents are requested to call ahead should they need to meet with her.           
FIRST AID
Serious injuries such as fractures and cuts requiring sutures are not treated, except for emergency measures, until parents can be notified.  When it is not possible to locate the parent, the child will be sent to the hospital.
PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION
In accordance with State Board of Education and Division of Public Health Regulation:
Any pupil who is required to take a medication prescribed by a licensed physician, shall be assisted by the school nurse or another member of the school staff, so designated by the building principal, and subject to the school having filed with the student’s health record:
A written statement from the prescribing physician detailing the method of taking the dosage and the time schedule to be observed.
A written authorization (request) from the parent or guardian of the pupil, indicating the desire that the school assist the pupil in the matters set forth in the physician’s statement.  
All medication shall be held by school personnel.  All medication with appropriate prescription label must be delivered to school by parent/guardian. On occasion, students may keep some medication (inhalers, epi-pens) in class as determined appropriate by the school nurse.  Students with life threatening conditions (example - severe bee allergies) are asked to keep an “extra” dose of medication at the school.
NON-PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION
Written authorization from parents is required for a student to 
take non-prescription medication.  All such medication must be in the original packaging and labeled with the child’s name.  It will be held by school personnel.  Authorization via the telephone will be used only in emergency situations.
HEALTH MEASURES
No child should be sent to school with any of the following conditions:
Temperature - Decrease in temperature after giving fever-reducing medication, does not mean child should be in school.
Sore throat or ear ache.
Serious cough or cold.
Sick or aching stomach.
Any kind of skin rash.
Head lice and/or nits, unless child has been treated.
Vomiting/Diarrhea, within the last twenty-four hours.
Children sent to school with these or similar conditions will be dismissed from school, and shall be the responsibility of the parent to come for them or to send a responsible adult in their place.  Should it be necessary for an ill child to go home, he/she may not go home alone.  No child should go home to an unoccupied house.
