Text Box: HEALTH ACTIVITIES
The school nurse and teachers direct school health activities toward disease prevention, health protection, and health education.

Services of the school nurse include administering vision and hearing tests, scoliosis screening, keeping cumulative health records and assisting with immunization programs. The nurse confers with teachers, parents, pupils, medical personnel, and other relative health professionals.

EXCUSED RECESS
Teachers have duty during recess, therefore, students cannot be left alone in the classroom at this time. In good weather (not raining and/or extreme cold) students must go outside. This is a short time and students need air and exercise. If a student is not able to go out, we will need a doctor’s note indicating this. If a child is not well enough to participate in the entire school program, it is better to remain home a little longer.

IMMUNIZATION
All children shall be immunized prior to school entrance, according to the current recommendation of the State Public Health Agency. Proof of immunization is a letter, statement, or record from your health provider showing each dose of vaccine and date administered.

The law provides that children not in compliance with these requirements may be excluded from school.

Any parent or guardian requesting that his/her child be excused from immunization for religious or medical reasons shall complete an application for exemption. Any child may, at the discretion of the School Board, be exempt, for health reasons, from all or part of the immunization requirement.*

   * Interested parents should contact the school principal and/or nurse for a full copy of
the school procedure and the necessary application to be used.
