Text Box: School Cancellation/Delayed Opening
All students and parents should be advised that school cancellation or delayed opening announcements will be provided to radio stations WBNC, WMWV (1050 AM, 93.5 FM). Radio announcements are generally made prior to 5:30 a.m. and are repeated at the convenience of the radio station. Television station coverage of WEATHER RELATED closing or delays is also available from Channel 6 in Portland. This coverage normally begins at 5:30 a.m. If parents and/or students have any reason to question whether there will be school, they should tune to the above stations. In the event of a delayed opening, Kindergarten class will be cancelled.

Early Closing
During any school day, unexpected events could occur that would necessitate the early closing of school (weather, plumbing or heating problems, etc.). When such events do occur - attempts are made to notify parents in advance via telephone and announcements on the radio. It is very possible that time and/or conditions would not permit prior notification of parents. It is important that the school and your child be aware of a “back up plan” (where you would like your child to go should we be unable to reach you).

Each parent has a different concept of when school should be cancelled or what should necessitate the closing of school early. If in doubt concerning the decisions made - PLEASE keep your child home or pick up your child early.

Parental Custody
The Freedom Elementary School assumes that both parents have equal custody of a child. Should this not be the case— it is the parents responsibility to provide the school with proper documentation indicating custody of said child. Verbal notification will not be sufficient. Any extenuating circumstances must be brought to the attention of the office.
